Birth - Shealyn

Sometimes I get the pleasure of attending a birth as a doula and as a photographer. It's even more interesting when I get to do a maternity session (like the one I did for Shea) and then move on to shoot the birth! Shealyn had a nice and long labour, allowing for a lot of photo opportunities that really showed the ups and downs of bringing a life into the world. She had a wonderful support team and I think the love of her family really shows through in all of the pictures.

Once it starts to get to this point in labor (this was after 24 hours of
contractions with no pain medication), I tend to stop taking pictures
because my role as a doula is more important than my role as a
photographer

After she got the epidural (again, after an entire 24 hours without ANY
pain relief!)

This was after her epidural fell out. It was then considered contaminated,
so they had to remove it and place an entirely new one

Everyone in the waiting room (Shealyn was brought in for a C-section
after getting stuck at 6cm, due to a swollen cervix and a lengthy - 36
hours! - labour)
